Our close friend introduced my wife and I to this theater about 2 years ago, and needless to say we have seen every movie we’ve wanted to at this place since. The theater is beautiful in the old section and the new modern section is perfect for those new releases.
Now, let’s take a stroll back to the concession area… the food is well worth the comfortable prices. The popcorn here is a level above everywhere else too, i’m not sure what they do to it but it really has that pop.
so yeah 5 out of 5 for sure, especially after the friendly, hardworking staff and skip.
Very nice historic theater in downtown Decatur! Popcorn is excellent. They have a good variety of snacks and the staff is always friendly and helpful. It has such a cool vibe, especially in the original screen room with all the historic detailing. The annex is also nice and well maintained. Be sure to patronize this Decatur gem.
WDCR Catholic Radio Movie night with Mother Teresa Movie. Good popcorn. Movie was wonderful!! Thank you for doing this for us each year. Looking forward to next year.
Friendly staff affordable prices.
Clean atmosphere.yummy snacks and drinks.
Highly Recommend
I can’t remember the last time I saw a show at The Avon. Jaws I think. Anywho, I went to see The Jesus Revolution. It was fantastic!!! I had already seen it at home not too long ago. I wanted to see it on big screen. It was free admission. A local church blessed the public. Thank you by the way. I can’t remember the name of the church. The snacks were yummy & prices not bad at all. Seating was nice, not uncomfortable or too close. Sound was very clear & loud. Audience was also civilized but cried, clapped, laughed. Me too
Without a doubt the best place to watch a movie in Decatur. Their concessions are very reasonable. You can still refill your popcorn for 50 cents. The marquee is very nostalgic. Some of the seats are in pretty poor shape but they are in the process of raising money to replace them. And rather than increasing their prices they are taking donations. I have to to say overall the place has been very well maintained over the last 100 + years. Theaters like these are dying off and often giving way to theaters owned by huge corporations. If you haven't watched a movie here, give it a shot. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Owner is antisemitic and made posts about it to the Avon’s official Facebook page. I don’t recommend supporting this business.
Cheaper than the other theaters and great snacks. Movie picture and sound is good quality and the seats are comfy. The staff was super friendly.
